What is a Peter Spann Film?
A Peter Spann film must leave you thinking, wondering or at least smiling.
You don’t have to like the characters but you must find them interesting.
My goal is pure entertainment. If we can see our lives, our best self or our worst self in the characters then a Peter Spann film has succeeded.
Peter Spann Film – Spark of Passion
As a child the first movie I ever saw was Peter Pan. My parents thought that was funny.
I grew up in the country and we didn’t have a cinema but from time to time, particularly in school holidays a travelling cinema would come through town and play their scratched prints at the local town hall.
Making friends with the projectionist I spent a lot of time up there watching the reels turn and looking for the flickering circle in the top right hand corner ready to kick over to the second projector.
Peter Spann Film – A Love of Story
The second film I saw was Star Wars – at the drive in with my best friend.
We fought over who was going to be Luke or Han for weeks on end, bashing each other with Light Sabres made out of sticks.
In high school my father bought me a Super 8mm camera which I used to annoy my friends by filming them when they least expected it and I was a passionate participant in local theatre.
But when it came to University my father convinced me that to pursue film or theatre would was insane and so began a 30 year side trip away from my ultimate passion in life… Film.
